Moving from the Garden State to the Sandhills was a shock to my green thumb.
Our old tobacco fields were stripped, barren, and dry. Clearly needed help with planning a rewilding to bring back wildlife and beauty. I asked many for ideas on whom might understand and support this vision. That is where Melissa comes in. Her wide range of knowledge—fine gardening, planning, being ecologically friendly, using natives, and having an eye for balance and beauty—was hugely helpful.
Then we had the excellent input from Rachel in supplying plants and ideas from the enthusiasm and expert understanding of the area and what would thrive in sandy soil with searing summers. Between the two, Melissa and Rachel, we have rejoiced in the changes. Once-sad fields have begun to regrow with the insects, pollinators, birds, and critters that had long ago abandoned the area, making headway back to where they once thrived.
